21st Century Parenting

Our country has started making a lot of measurable progress during the past few years, thus providing many new opportunities for young people. The younger generation is moving from one place to another in order to get the best opportunity where they can grow academically as well as, financially. In addition, because of the advances, the younger generation is getting, they are becoming globalized and more individualistic in nature. Globalization is happening at a speed never seen before.

Because of globalization, many domains of our country are changing. One such area is the family system of our country. Earlier the country had more number of joint and extended families. But, with the changing situation, more and more number of nuclear families are forming. Generally, nuclear families only consist of two partners living together and working day and night. This may not create a problem unless and until they become parents. During this new phase of life, they may or may not have their parents to take care of them and the baby, and this may create extra problems for them. This circumstance leads the generation to learn about parenting in the 21st century without their parent’s being constantly present by their side.

Children are the most sensitive and vulnerable individuals living around us. All of the experiences they get during their early lives have the power to form their identity later in life. As the primary caregivers are parents, the environment provided by them, is mainly created by their own past experiences. Which may or may not be positive or healthy in nature, but the child starts to grow in that environment. The practices they follow, the language they prominently use, the food they feed themselves, the kind of entertainment programs they watch; in short, whatever things are done by parents have the greatest impact on the child and his/her development. First Week of Motherhood and Breastfeeding

The first 24 hours with my newborn was an achievement of “Initiation of breastfeeding” within one hour of birth, without any formula/animal milk nor any Prelacteals. I call it an achievement because, throughout my pregnancy, I was very sure that I don’t want to give my child formula feed.  Even before I had a kid, I had extended support to friends and cousins.   During my 6 years of career, I have seen that even though Initiation of breastfeeding occurring  within one hour, formula feed was given to the newborn. Thus, it became a challenge for me. Now it was my time to implement all the knowledge into practice. C-section nowadays is very advanced, I got discharged in 36 hours of delivery. But yet it was painful to feed the child every 2 hours day and night.
