Importance of Parenting

Image
Children are the most sensitive and vulnerable individuals living around us. All of the experiences they get during their early lives have the power to form their identity later in life. As the primary caregivers are parents, the environment provided by them, is mainly created by their own past experiences. Which may or may not be positive or healthy in nature, but the child starts to grow in that environment. The practices they follow, the language they prominently use, the food they feed themselves, the kind of entertainment programs they watch; in short, whatever things are done by parents have the greatest impact on the child and his/her development. Ultimately it would not be wrong to say, these experiences shape the identity of the child throughout life. Parents have also formed their identities from their childhood and adult life experiences. But the majority of the time parents showcase the parenting behavior they saw their parents following. Now, all of us need to...

Mother's Day Special

Image
OH MY GOD!!!! I AM A MOTHER NOW ……… Who is a mother? She is someone who loves you unconditionally. She is the maker and keeper of precious memory. She can detect a lie, hear the smallest noise and see out the back of their head. When you google it, 1000s of quotes or messages will pop and there is a lot of many things about the mother. Actually, we all are always prepared for this phase since our childhood. When we used to play “Ghar Ghar” someone becomes mom, dad, and always a younger one becomes a kid.  We used to play this game a lot. While playing this game, we have made our houses behind the sofa or under the dining table. It was a fun game though. When I and my husband decided to have a baby, we knew that our world is gonna change. The pregnancy phase was easy, we just need to take a few precautions and regular checkups. But the actual game started then, I always thought the motherhood would be difficult but manageable. I do believe it today, but ...

A Feeding Friend with Benefits

Image
Well, we all need friends at each and every stage of our lives. Many a time we come across a special friend, which becomes our best friend. It is rightly said that “Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by the meeting that a new world is born”. A new friend came into my life on 23rd November, a day after my son was born. That friend turned out to be my support system. My friend helped me in learning the skill of breastfeeding.  Breastfeeding journey till now would have been tough if that special friend wouldn't have come into my life. Breastfeeding becomes very effective if the position of the baby is correct. Now, you all must be scratching your head, to know who is that new friend. He is none other than my “Breastfeeding Pillow”. Yes, you read that correctly. My “U” shaped pillow, that I asked my husband to buy the very next day of my delivery, turned out to be my best friend.   Breastfeeding became...

Our country has started making a lot of measurable progress during the past few years, thus providing many new opportunities for young people. The younger generation is moving from one place to another in order to get the best opportunity where they can grow academically as well as, financially. In addition, because of the advances, the younger generation is getting, they are becoming globalized and more individualistic in nature. Globalization is happening at a speed never seen before. Because of globalization, many domains of our country are changing. One such area is the family system of our country. Earlier the country had more number of joint and extended families. But, with the changing situation, more and more number of nuclear families are forming. Generally, nuclear families only consist of two partners living together and working day and night. This may not create a problem unless and until they become parents. During this new phase of life, they may or may not have their...

First Week of Motherhood and Breastfeeding

The first 24 hours with my newborn was an achievement of “Initiation of breastfeeding” within one hour of birth, without any formula/animal milk nor any Prelacteals. I call it an achievement because, throughout my pregnancy, I was very sure that I don’t want to give my child formula feed.  Even before I had a kid, I had extended support to friends and cousins.   During my 6 years of career, I have seen that even though Initiation of breastfeeding occurring  within one hour, formula feed was given to the newborn. Thus, it became a challenge for me. Now it was my time to implement all the knowledge into practice. C-section nowadays is very advanced, I got discharged in 36 hours of delivery. But yet it was painful to feed the child every 2 hours day and night. C-section delivery and overall recovery take around 2 to 3 months.  I came across a myth, that after C-section delivery, milk is not secreted in proper quantity for few days’. Thus many families feed th...

C-section Delivery & Breastfeeding...

Today, I want to talk about the achievements of my beautiful journey named "Pregnancy". As a Nutritionist by profession, I was having many targets to be achieved during my pregnancy. My beautiful journey started of pregnancy exactly a year before. On April 7, 2019, we came to know that we are expecting a baby. It was a mixed feeling. We were very happy as well as bit tensed as to how we are going to travel this journey. I, being a nutritionist, was more worried about my healthy pregnancy. When I conceived I was obese and required only a few kgs to gain during my entire pregnancy journey, and the best part was I achieved this target. I also wished not to have gestational diabetes and I have achieved that too. I also wished to eat healthy and that too was achieved. Days and months passed and delivery was near. I and my family were expecting a normal delivery but the situation created was against our wish. Yes, we had to go for a c-section delivery. Honestly, the word c-se...
